Irenic Thoughts

Irenic. The word means peaceful. This web log (or blog) exists to create an ongoing, and hopefully peaceful, series of comments on the life of King of Peace Episcopal Church. This is not a closed community. You are highly encouraged to comment on any post or to send your own posts.

All you need

In tommorrow's Gospel reading Jesus tells a scribe that he has answered wisely when he says,
You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that 'he is one, and besides him there is no other'; and 'to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,' and 'to love one's neighbor as oneself,'—this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
Of the commands to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself, Dr. Reginald Fuller writes,
Jesus understands the interconnection between the two commandments in a quite radical sense. Love of God is illusory if it does not issue in love of neighbor, and love of neighbor is refined self-love if it does not proceed from the love of God.

"I sought my soul, and the soul I could not see.
I sought my God and God eluded me
I sought my neighbor and found all three."
