The New Commandment
Today is called Maundy Thursday from the Latin Maundatum, meaning commandment, for on this night before he died, Jesus gave his disciples the command to "Love one another as I have loved you."
It was on this night that he had his last supper with his disciples that Jesus washed their feet as a sign that they should serve others. Tonight, footwashing will be a part of our Maundy Thursday worship at King of Peace. Though one does not have to wash another's feet to take part in this worship. However, it is a powerful outward sign of a life of service to others. Those who wish to follow Jesus are called to servant leadership exemplified by both Jesus words, "Love one another" and his actions in washing the feet of his disciples.
The evening will begin with an Agape Meal at 6 p.m. in which we'll share a simple soup supper with bread, cheese and olives to go with the soup. The Maundy Thursday worship will begin at 7 p.m.
