Why God wouldn't want you
There are many reasons why God would not want you, but fear not, you are in good company:
Noah got drunk.
Abraham was too old.
Jacob was a liar.
Moses stuttered.
Samson had long hair.
Naomi was a widow.
David was too young.
David's armor didn't fit.
David had an affair.
Solomon was too rich.
Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal.
Hosea's wife was a prostitute.
Jonah ran from God.
John the Baptist was a loudmouth.
Jesus was too poor.
Peter was afraid of death.
Lazarus was dead.
Paul was a murderer (So was Moses).
John Mark was rejected by Paul.
Timothy had ulcers.
Thomas doubted.
Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse?
So did Peter, Paul,.....well, lots of folks did.
In scripture, God chooses and uses the unlikely. The people God uses to work out His will are not perfect, but they are willing to admit and repent their faults. -anonymous
In a related news item, more than half the population of earth is considered too feminine to be called by God to pastor a congregation. Yesterday, in an action outside the bounds of their church, 8 women were ordained as Roman Catholic priests and 4 as deacons. None of the ordinations are recognized by the hierarchy who say the actions place the women outside the church. An Associated Press article in the Boston Globe is here Excommunication looms over female ordination and an opinion piece from the The Philadelphia Inquirer is here Ceremony highlights church divide.
Thirty years after the approval of women's ordination within The Episcopal Church, we have largely settled that issue within our denomination and now have a woman as Presiding Bishop elect. With our three decades of experience we can see how God has blessed the ministries of hundreds (or is it thousands) of female priests in our communion and beyond (see RevGalPals Blog). God continues to choose and use those others consider unfit.
