Have you seen the God's Love commercials from Interstate Batteries? It seems like it is a commercial for a Christian denomination until the surprise ending that gives a web address for follow up at the Interstate Batteries' website. The video above is a minute and twenty second clip that combines Interstate's Chairman Norm Miller describing why he wanted to create the commercial with the 30 second commercial itself. The short version of why is listed at their website as,
We realize it is a little unusual for a company to be spreading news about God’s Love. We want to honor God in how we manage our business and serve our community everyday.Having worked for Interstate since the 1960s, Miller took the lead at the company in 1978. He works to put his faith into practice in business as well as personal life and he serves on the board of Dallas Theological Seminary. Interstate Batteries is unique in having a corporate Chaplain's Department. The goal of the God's Love commercials is to point people toward straightforward information on how to come to saving faith in Jesus Christ: Searching for Answers.
The commercial itself is short, catchy and leaves a very positive impression. For broadly casting the seed to interest people in the love of God, I don't know when I have seen a more impressive project. I find it bold, as while some may like Interstate Batteries more for the commercial, it could also have the opposite reaction from others. My first thought was that I wish they would not have put Interstate's name on the commercial. After all, that does then make it a form of commercial for the company, wrapping their corporate identity in a loving God, potentially as a means of making people like the brand more. Then I realized that if it hadn't have ended with www.interstatebatteries.com/godslove/ I probably would not have been curious enough to go follow the link online. I bet that is true of others as well. I now see that final detail as essential to the ad accomplishing that for which it was purposed. What do you think?
peace,

Very interesting...I've never seen this commercial. Though, I don't really notice commercials unless they are presented during the Super Bowl or by Hallmark! :)
