Irenic Thoughts

Irenic. The word means peaceful. This web log (or blog) exists to create an ongoing, and hopefully peaceful, series of comments on the life of King of Peace Episcopal Church. This is not a closed community. You are highly encouraged to comment on any post or to send your own posts.

Open Source for Churches

Open Source is an approach to the development of ideas and products that frees the process to gain input from a wide array of people who will each bring their own creativity and perspective. The Internet has made this possible in a variety of areas including computer programming and biotechnology. King of Peace tries to foster an open source approach to church materials.

One of the more popular pages at King of Peace website is this one: Resources for Other Churches. The page links to resources like a PDF of An Annotated Eucharist which gives commentary to set the actions of communion in context. There are also the very popular Advent and Lent sections.

This week, we add 18 new documents to our Resources for Other Churches. There are booklets for Bible studies and other study groups, including classes on How We Got the Bible and Heretics. Additionally, we now offer a half dozen examples in PDF format of our bi-weekly bathroom newsletter, The Toilet Paper, with its mix of humor and teaching. Try this one created for a week with an ordination to the diaconate: Toilet Paper #41 or this one on humility: Toilet paper #6. You can also click on the one pictured at left, which was for the First Sunday after Christmas and the Epiphany.

All of the items at the resources page are for others to use as is, or to borrow from freely in creating new resources. Give credit as seems appropriate or not considering the use. Enjoy!
